The Battle of Prestonpans Jacobite Museum

The Society has arranged a visit to the Battle of Prestonpans Jacobite Museum, Town Hall, High St., Prestonpans, EH32 9AY on Saturday 15 July 2023 at 2 for 2.30pm.

Members will be offered a cup of tea from 2pm, after which Dr Arran Johnston, one of our members, will give us an introductory talk in the Jubilee Room at 2.30pm before conducting us round the Museum. There will be some standing so if you need to sit do bring a folding stool or shooting stick. Some chairs will be available.

The museum tells the story of the 1745 battle and its context. Historical and archaeological artefacts are on display, as are two sections of the `Prestonpans Tapestry’. Dr. Johnston was instrumental in setting up the Museum and is Director of the Scottish Battlefields Trust, an author, and Consultant Curator at the Battle of Prestonpans (1745) Heritage Trust.

Parking is on the High Street, the main street through Prestonpans. There is a supermarket car park almost opposite the Town Hall and more spaces are available opposite the The New Prestoungrange Gothenburg pub, a few minutes’ walk away.

An idea of numbers will be required, as the Museum is open to other visitors on Saturdays. So please let me know if you plan to come, and if we exceed the number Dr. Johnson allows I will keep a waiting list.

I do hope you can join the Society for this special visit.
