Abbotsford

The members of East Lothian Antiquarian and Field Naturalists Society made an expedition by coach to Abbotsford near Melrose, the home of Sir Walter Scott, on Saturday 6th August.

The party was led by Stephen Bunyan who conducted the party round the mansion. It was in a sense a valedictory visit for Abbotsford is to close at the end of September for major refurbishment and will not be open in 2012 though it is hoped the new visitor centre will be open during that year.

Heavy rain made it impossible to enjoy the gardens and grounds.

The next event will be on Sunday 11th September which will be a coach excursion visiting sites connected with Andrew Meikle the bi centenary of whose death occurs on 11th November.
