The conference on 11th May 2024 celebrated the 100th anniversary of the formation of the East Lothian Antiquarians and Field Naturalists’ Society. There was a full day of lectures and presentations from distinguished academics and experts in their fields on the theme of “East Lothian Through the Ages”. The event was a sell-out with over 200 people in attendance.
The ceremonial cake was cut by our current President Stephen Bunyan, by our new Honorary President the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon, and by Sir Hew Dalrymple (whose grandfather was one of the founder members 100 years ago). In addition to the lecture program there were displays from other historical societies from around the area. Copies of the latest edition of the “Transactions” (a bi-annual publication of historical articles) were distributed to members and were available for purchase by non-members.
We very much hope that the conference will encourage new members to join and continue the good work into the next century.
The Society will hold its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 25th May at 2.30pm in West Barns Village Hall and all are welcome to attend.
