SUMMARY:Preston Hall and gardens\, near Pathhead
DESCRIPTION:It is with pleasure that Members are invited to a private visit hosted by Henrietta Callander. The event will take the form of a tour of the house and gardens followed by refreshments. Thereafter attendees will be free to explore the extensive grounds at their leisure. \n \nThe present house has been in the Callander family since its 1791 inception and was built by the esteemed London-based architect Robert Mitchell. It is considered to be his most important work. It is a Category A listed building together with its North and Lion Gates\, walled garden\, stables and Temple. In all considered to be of outstanding architectural and scenic value. As expected considerable family history is associated with the house and Henrietta Callander will elucidate.\nThe house is accessed off the A68 via a lodge entrance between the Pathhead Tyne Water Bridge and The Stair Arms (on right from Pathhead\, a few hundred yards). We shall meet at the front of the house where there is car parking in good time for a prompt 2.30 PM start. \nPlaces are limited to 20 attendees and will be allocated on “first come first served” basis.
